Faculties

A faculty is an administrative unit of a university that gathers degree programs and research units with closely related disciplines. The title of a professor in charge of a faculty is Dean. Tampere University has seven faculties:

Faculty of Information Technology and Communication (ITC)
Faculty of Education and Culture (EDU)
Faculty of Medicine and Health Technology (MET)
Faculty of Built Environment (BEN)
Engineering and Natural Sciences (ENS)
Faculty of Social Sciences (SOC)

The position of Industrial Engineering and Management at the University of Tampere is special due to the fact that its teaching and research unit belongs to a different faculty than its degree programs and students. The unit and the staff of Industrial Engineering are located in the Faculty of Management and Business (MAB) while the degree programs are located in the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences (ENS).

Theses in the degree programs in Industrial Engineering and Management refer to the faculty to which the degree program belongs. For example, Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences will be written on the cover of the Master of Science thesis in the degree program in Industrial Engineering and Management. The courses, however, belong to the faculty where the unit organizing the course is located. For example, courses organized by the Unit of Industrial Engineering and Management belong to the Faculty of Management and Business. However, the name of the faculty does not have to be mentioned in the course assignments, so the reference can be deleted from the thesis template when using it.
