Hallopeds (student representatives in administrative bodies)

Student representatives (hallopeds) engage in representation of student interests within various administrative bodies, such as the faculty council, which makes decisions at the faculty level and the planning group for degree programmes, which designs the content of degree programmes. The academic affairs responsible is also practically a halloped, although this name is not commonly used for them.

You can contact the academic affairs responsible and other student advocates regarding a wide range of representation-related matters. Below you’ll find a breakdown of which representative to contact depending on the administrative body and your issue.

Faculty Council of Management and Business (MAB)

Each faculty has a faculty council. The faculty council for the Faculty of Management and Business (MAB) includes five student members and their deputies. The faculty council is responsible for, among other things, approving the curricula of the faculty's degree programmes, deciding on admission criteria for the programmes and making decisions regarding the evaluation of theses.

You can contact the student representative of the faculty council if, for example, you are interested in influencing the evaluation criteria for theses or learning more about the admission criteria and student intake numbers.

Representatives:

Planning Group for Degree Programmes or PTO Group (PTO from Finnish)
The most important task of the planning group is curriculum development for Industrial Engineering and Management as well as Information and Knowledge Management. Student representatives in the PTO group play a key role in determining which courses and study modules are taught. Other responsibilities include processing student feedback as well as preparing admission criteria and intake numbers.

You can share your thoughts with the appointed PTO halloped or the study counsellor (that is also a representative in this body) about which courses you believe should or should not be included in the degree program. Your feedback may lead to the development of a new course or the removal of a previously mandatory one.

Representatives:

Steering Group for Education
The Steering Group for Education is a body operating under the Faculty of Management and Business (MAB) and is responsible for handling faculty-level matters. Its tasks include, among others, curriculum development at the faculty level and addressing development needs within the faculty. In a nutshell, the Steering Group for Education performs similarly to the PTO planning group, but at the faculty level.

Other administrative bodies
The Student Union of Tampere University (TREY) is responsible for recruiting student representatives (hallopeds) to other administrative bodies within Tampere University. Descriptions of these bodies and the names of current student representatives can be found on TREY's website.

Members of TREY's Council of Representatives

TREY's council of representatives is responsible for, among other things, electing TREY’s board and approving its action plan. The council consists of 49 student members and their deputies, who are divided into council groups. Students of Industrial Engineering and Management as well as Information and Knowledge Management mainly belong to the representative group RATTOISA (students of Civil Engineering, Architecture, Industrial Engineering and Management and Information and Knowledge Management).

Indecs' RATTOISA members:

Representative council meetings are open to the public so feel free to attend and follow the discussions. Information about the meetings is shared on the student union’s website. You can contact the council members if you wish to influence TREY’s activities and decisions.
